Apparently the refusal to refuel Iranian passenger jets came on the heels of a fax British Petroleum sent to its own and partner refueling companies, putting Iran Air and other Iranian airlines on a no-fuel blacklist. The fax was sent out just hours after President Obama signed petroleum sanctions against Iran into effect.

BP, those fantastic folks who continue to bring us the fascinating Gulf Oil Spill program, has said unequivocally through their spokesperson, “We will comply with any international sanctions that are imposed.  And that goes also for the new round of US sanctions following a decision by Congress.”

Britain, Germany, Kuwait, and… most important of all… the United Arab Emirates have refused to refuel Iranian jets. It is the first vital strike against the Iranian economy.

This action is mandated by the stringent sanctions signed by President Obama last week and immediately put into effect.

The UAE’s action is particularly of note, and is being taken as the most unkind cut of all by the Iranians. (more…)
