Drumbeats of War - Obama Sends Carriers to Gulf
President Obama has dispatched Carrier Strike Group 10 to the Persian Gulf.
The USS Harry S. Truman with its attendant ships and Marine strike force sails tomorrow, according to Israeli military sources. They will be joined by additional guided-missile cruisers and destroyers to enhance their presence and capabilities. And, quite unusually, the German warship FGS Hessen, which will be under American command.
We have had only one carrier group in the area for quite some time, all the time Obama has been President. Traditionally, we up the ante to two when we want to project our military power into the Gulf, usually for political reasons. Two is cautionary.
However…
Same sources say the Obama administration has decided to send at least two more carrier strike groups to the Gulf in the next three months. That will put 4 or 5 carrier strike groups off Iranian shores. If true, then by July/August, then it will certainly appear to be something more than political.
As I wrote last time, sanctions are dead. What other response to Iran’s nuclear program does that leave?
And as you may have noticed, the recent oil spill disaster in our own Gulf (in which Halliburton was involved) may have a chilling effect on drilling for oil in the United States. The prolific light, sweet crude oil wells of Iran are looking particularly delectable right now.
And as you may have noticed, the Stock Market is in decline. It fell 376 points today, nearly breaking through the red line of 10,000. What happened to everyones 401(k) retirement accounts based on the market just before the Iraq war?
Before you set your watch to July/August, consider what the response of the nations to Israel’s north will be to the military buildup, whether it is one more or three more carrier groups. They have been preparing for either an attack by Israel, or to attack Israel. Will they loose the dogs of war preemptively to preempt the Israeli/US preemptive strike, whether it is coming or not? Perceptions are reality.
Please, please remember. It takes time to ship emergency supplies to your door. It took me a year to get everything I wanted in place. Granted, I’m a little perfectionist oriented and tend to overplan.
But if you do not have a store of emergency supplies on hand, and are not going to store food off the shelf of your local market, put in your order for prepackaged emergency food and other supplies today. Supplies are not infinite, and other people are going to start thinking this way… increasingly as the American people get into the fear factor of the times.
Here is an excerpt from the Food - Basic page. You might do well to take a look.
