Drumbeats of War - Lebanon on Alert

In the wake of the clash of presidents in Washington between Obama and Netanyahu, military forces in southern Lebanon were put on alert.

The reason given by Lebanon was that a dozen or more Israeli soldiers supposedly crossed the border into Lebanon. Israel denies that. I’m fairly sure the real reason is the heightened possibility of an armed conflict in the Middle East since Israel was cut loose from the United States’ apron strings by our president.

We may soon see other forces in the region put in states of heightened alert.

The Washington Post puts the blame for the rift on Obama, not Netanyahu, saying “Obama picked a fight over something that virtually all Israelis agree on, and before serious discussions have even begun.

“A new administration can be excused for making such a mistake in the treacherous and complex theater of Middle East diplomacy. That’s why Obama was given a pass by many when he made exactly the same mistake last year. The second time around, the president doesn’t look naive. He appears ideological — and vindictive.”

This is a little odd, since some say that the Post has become a semi-official mouthpiece for the Obama administration. It would seem to add substance to the idea that the US is distancing from Israel for the purpose of letting them do their first strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Meanwhile the official Iranian news agency quotes Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Andrei Nesterenko telling the world the nuclear reactor at Bushehr will be on line by August.

Really. If you have not put away some food and water… oh, I’ve said it so many times, you either have done it already or are probably not going to do it.

I wish you all the best in the coming weeks.
