Don’t Forget About Your Animals
Most people I know who have animals take care of them very well indeed.
But if you have not yet started stocking food and water and supplies for yourself during an emergency, it’s a pretty sure bet you have not done so for your pets. Truth is, their needs will be as great as your own. They depend on you for the food and water and medicines you provide for them. For life itself.
You want to be able to do your duty toward them in an extended emergency situation. So doesn’t it just make sense to start laying in enough food and other supplies to sustain them for a period of time when those things might not be available?
Pay particular attention to having enough water. It would be a cruel choice if there were not enough water for both you AND your pets. Different animals need vastly different amounts of water, so I can’t make any suggestions. But you already know the answers anyway. Figure out how much they use in a day, and then multiply. Same for food. Fortunately, there are easily stored pet foods with long shelf life that you already know about.
More about how to have enough water during an emergency can be found in this website here.
Now that you’re thinking about taking care of your pet friends, maybe you would consider laying in food and water for yourself and your family. You deserve good care, too.
