The Burn
Before I even start, I have to say you must talk with your doctor and find out whether your use of any of the products mentioned in this post, or indeed anywhere on this site, is appropriate for you. All statements are only personal opinion, and have not been approved by any authority or agency or anyone else whatsoever. And read our disclaimer statement.
And truly, a person must also learn the proper technique before using any of the products mentioned, or they may do more harm than good.
That said, I’d like to talk about a very difficult subject. Burns. If you get queasy thinking about medical problems, please stop reading now.
Burns can be life-threatening, even when they affect a relatively small portion of the body. A person can go into shock from any degree of burn. The more severe a burn, the higher the likelihood of shock, and the greater the chance a person can die from it.
Burns are notoriously difficult to treat. Once a person has a burn, the affected area retains the heat and can actually keep on cooking flesh after the source of the burn has been taken away. And there always the danger of infection.
Until recently, the standard first aid for a burn over a large area of the body was a sterile woolen blanket, saturated with sterile water. That did cool down the victim, but it could also over-cool them and cause hypothermia, which could also be life threatening. And who of us everyday people have a sterile wool blanket and a lot of sterile water standing around? Of course, one must act quickly, so if you do not have it right at hand, you are basically up the creek. You are reduced to cooling it down by any means at your disposal, and hope for the best. Which is not always very good.
Thank God, Water-JelĀ® Technologies has developed the Emergency First Aid Blanket. It comes in a handy canister, and is first aid for a burn victim in a single step. It puts out the fire if a victim is still burning, stops burn progression, cools the skin, eases pain, and helps protect against airborne contamination. This blanket is really something.
You can read more about it at the Water-JelĀ® website, and can order it by googling ‘water-jel burn blanket’, or by going to the AllMed website. We have no connection with either one of these companies.
The blankets come in different sizes, the largest of which is carried by some firefighters to protect themselves if they are caught by a forrest fire and it sweeps over them. They trust their life to this product.
The way I got mine is, my daughter gave me one for a birthday present. Yeah, that’s a little different, but she asked me what I wanted, and that’s what I told her. Having it on hand has made me happier and given me more peace of mind than a whole lot of other things she could have given me.
