How Long Does It Take To Prepare?
It seems as though a person could just sit down at their computer, spend a few hours looking at different websites and gaining knowledge about emergency preparedness, and then order a bunch of stuff and then they’d be done and ready and prepared.
But it doesn’t work that way. There are levels of knowledge, each deeper and wider than the next. I don’t know anyone who has all the knowledge. And I’ve known some very competent people.
So you can’t wait until you have all the information and techniques and insider secrets that takes years to learn. You have to start preparing now, with the knowledge you have. You will make mistakes. You will get some things that you will shake your head at someday and wonder how you could have thought that was a good idea.
But you will have something. And if an emergency should come sooner rather than later, you will be so infinitely glad that you did get what you got, even if it isn’t perfect, even if it isn’t ‘enough’. You will have something.
When others are starting to listen to their stomachs start to gnaw though it’s own lining, you will have a bit of food. When others are frightened in the great darkness, you will have a little light. When others panic over wounds you have the supplies to treat, you will have a glimmer of tranquility.
Although I have had some preparedness supplies for decades, I admit they were minimal. When I started to prepare in earnest a little over two years ago, I thought it would take a month or at most two for me to get to a place where I thought my family would be in fairly good shape in case of a large event.
It took two years.
And I had a pretty good idea of where I was going with this when I started.
It just takes a while to get the things you want, and then decide maybe that’s not quite the right thing, or not enough, and then rotate the older stuff out to make way for the newer stuff, and… it just takes a while.
I’ve also practiced things I hadn’t done for a while, learned new techniques and expanded my skill set. Actually, it has been great fun on some sort of level. But it took two years before I could relax enough to say, okay, we’re basically ready.
Two years. I keep repeating that because I can hardly believe it myself.
How long will it take you?
I hope this site can help you shorten the time it took me, because however long it is until the next emergency, we have less time now than we did when I started preparing. May the Lord guide your steps.
